We are currently seeking a Staff Accountant to join our team in Colfax. Reporting to the Controller, the Staff Accountant will be responsible for various billing, tax and reporting items. This position will oversee the billing for our seed treatment business, lease tenant management, and other month end and year end support items. This position has no direct reports.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Seed Treatment, Agency Billings and Commission Monitoring: Process and monitor Seed Treatment Division non-agency and agency billings, ensuring accuracy and timeliness. Track and report on commissions earned by the Seed Treatment Team, providing detailed analysis and insights into performance metrics. Develop and implement reporting mechanisms to ensure transparency and accountability. Address any discrepancies promptly and work on continuous improvement of the billing and commission processes to align with company standards and objectives.
  • Tax Compliance: With oversight from the Controller, execute comprehensive tax-related responsibilities, including multi-state property tax and corresponding cost allocations, Oregon Commercial Activities Tax, B&O Tax, Sales Tax, Tonnage Tax, and Estimated Income Tax Payments. Ensure the tax tracking tool is consistently updated and maintained to reflect current data. Conduct regular reviews and audits to ensure accuracy and compliance with all relevant tax regulations and company policies.
  • Management of Tractor Fleet Files: Oversee the comprehensive management of the tractor fleet, including the monthly allocation of costs based on hours by cost center. This involves maintaining and updating the tractor and Terragator lease file, ensuring all transactions related to the tractor fleet are accurately recorded and monitored. Conduct regular reviews and audits to ensure data integrity and compliance with company standards. Address any discrepancies promptly and implement process improvements to enhance the accuracy and efficiency of fleet management.
  • Property Lease Billings: Perform the comprehensive management of property lease billings, ensuring timely and accurate payments. Adjust billing rates in accordance with lease agreements and maintain meticulous, up-to-date records. Conduct regular reviews and audits to ensure compliance with all relevant standards and policies.
  • Treasury Management: Assist various departments in accurately recognizing and recording cash received into the bank account daily. Under the oversight of the Controller, ensure that bank account balances are satisfactory and initiate necessary transfers between different accounts, including money market accounts.
  • Month End Close Processes: Assist the Controller in completing various month-end processes, including posting journal entries. Ensure the accuracy of all postings, proactively identifying and correcting any discrepancies to prevent erroneous postings and maintain the integrity of financial data. Coordinate with various departments to gather necessary information and address any issues promptly, fostering a collaborative approach to month-end closing activities.
  • Year-End Review Engagement: Assist the Controller in carrying out the year-end review engagement with external auditors and internal stakeholders. Prepare necessary documentation, provide audit requests, and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Ethics and Integrity: Uphold the highest standards of ethics and integrity in all financial dealings. Foster a culture of transparency, accountability, and ethical behavior within the finance team.
  • Other Duties as Assigned: Execute additional tasks and responsibilities as required, including the preparation of periodic reports, support of strategic initiatives, the implementation of process improvements, ensuring timely completion of team projects, and other projects deemed necessary.

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • The Staff Accountant will have no direct reports.

Preferred Education / Experience

  • Four-year degree in Accounting, Finance or Business Administration.
  • Accounting experience in agriculture industry.
  • Experience with Microsoft Dynamics GP.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
  • High level of integrity, attention to detail, and commitment to accuracy.
